Press release
Following on from the successful introduction of International Rules to our local scene last year.
We are now pleased to announce the possibility of some Guernsey team's joining the inaugural National “Ultimate Pool League”.
This is a great opportunity to explore a new competitive pathway for cueists in Guernsey, allowing players of all standards the chance to compete within a structured team format and giving the winning team a route into national televised competition and beyond.
A)
In this proposed collaboration with Jersey we would form the “Channel Islands Ultimate Pool League”. The joint league”, will bring together 6-8 teams from Guernsey and Jersey in a professionally run inter-island league format. (These 2 teams would then go on to one fixture date away in Jersey (a Saturday day trip) and the receptacle, Jersey visiting us, with the final winning team being selected to the televised National Finals in the UK over a weekend.
B)
If we get enough teams then each island will have representation at the national finals to be held in the UK on 11th & 12th of October (Local teams would compete home and away to find the top 1 teams from each island).
Key highlights:
Joint Channel Islands league (6–8 teams)
3-4 teams per island
Local inter-island team competition over 2 weekends, one home and one away.
5 singles per fixture – no doubles, no filler
8-player squad, 5 selected each week
A fair handicap system (UP score) governed by Ultimate Pool, gives the opportunity for mixed-ability players and teams.
A total of 4-6 home fixtures, (June - Aug) with the top 2 teams qualifying for the inter-island stages in September.
Digital scoring, registration, and payments via app
Clear pathway into the wider national structure
No wildcards – qualification earned on merit
Live broadcast semi-finals and national final
£36,460 national prize fund
This is a message to gauge interest and give local players the chance to be part of something exciting and new.
Please note this league will be only facilitated by the GPA, the official rules, regulations, and league structure will be governed by Ultimate Pool.
Players are NOT required to become GPA members.
It would be great to build at least 4 squads of 8 players to help represent Guernsey in this inaugural format.
This is built for serious league players, ambitious teams, and players who want the chance to test themselves in a bigger arena. Somewhere real to go!
